Welcome to the official web site for the Sterling Fire Department. The SFD proudly serves the Town of Sterling, Massachusetts by providing fire suppression, rescue, fire prevention and emergency medical services for our community. Sterling has four full-time members and a full-time administrative assistant that work during the day along with an on-call staff of thirty firefighters and EMT's. We operate two paramedic level ambulances as well as three Engine Companies, a Ladder Company, and a Heavy Rescue Unit out of our headquarters at 5 Main Street in Sterling center. In addition, the department operates two brush fire units and support equipment to handle various types of specialized emergency situations. The Fire Prevention Division is responsible for Code Enforcement, Permits, Inspections as well as providing Public Education services to the community. We hope you enjoy your visit to our website. DISASTER PREPAREDNESS 
The Sterling Fire Department will be conducting live-burn training drills on Saturday March 17, 2012 from 8:00AM to approximately 4:00PM at 23 Redstone Hill Road. This training will involve live-fire that in turn will produce smoke within the immediate area. Due to the fact there will be hose lines and several pieces of fire apparatus in the road, Redstone Hill Road will be closed to thru traffic at Clinton Road from the west side of Redstone Hill and at Rugg Road from the east side of Redstone Hill Road. Local residents will be able to access their homes from either direction.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this training may cause during this time. Live fire training is something that we rarely have the option to conduct and is invaluable because it enables department personnel to train under real life conditions.

8/29/11 - Tropical Storm Irene moved through Sterling yesterday inflicting some minor flooding and tree damage caused from the 40 to 50 mph wind gusts recorded during the storm. At the peak of the storm crews responded to several buildings that were damaged by trees that were blown down by the winds. Several roads were closed when trees fell and power was lost in many areas for several hours. About 4 inches of rain fell over about an 8 hour period which caused some flooding in the downtown area and Meetinghouse Hill Rd. area. No injuries were reported during the storm and all roads were cleared by 6PM Sunday night.
